Black Butte

I have many great memories about Dorothy, but one of my favorite was a trip to Black Butte. Most, if not all, of the Soule's were there at one time or another during that week. The house was suppose to sleep 12, but we had many more than that. Erin and Lindsay were babies, so this had to be in 1986. Dorothy decided that she wanted to take a long walk alone for some quiet time. After an hour we started to wonder where she was. After 2 hours, we started to worry. Some set out on foot, others set out in cars to see if we could find her. This was long before cell phones, finally someone called the house from the Lodge to tell us that Dorothy had been at the snack bar and then set out for the rest of her walk. We finally found her walking back towards the house. The whole time she was walking, checking out the sights and resting when she got tired. We found out later that she had walked at least 6 miles if not longer. She could not figure out why were all so worried about her.

As the years went by, Dorothy wouldoften join us and the McCormicks family for our yearly vacation at Black Butte. She would sit outside for hours reading, watching the wildlife and just relaxing. Those are the happy memories. Love you Dorothy!
